About Carmen

Carmen Legge, born in rural Nova Scotia in 1961, has maintained a youthful curiosity and intellectual nature throughout his life. He has long been fascinated by antique tools and hardware, how they were made and used. Carmen spent much time learning traditional skills from past tradesmen, especially those related to farming and forestry. After technical college, he worked as a forestry professional and wood producer for 17 years and then as a blacksmith for 21 years. Through extensive research using books, the internet, museum collections, and hands-on experience, Carmen has gained significant knowledge about French, English, and German life from the 1600s to the 1950s. About 10 years ago, researchers from the TV show "Curse of Oak Island" asked Carmen to examine and elucidate some artifacts they had found, drawing on his extensive expertise in antique tools and history. Among many endeavours, he enjoys teaching and writing having authored “Oxen: Their Care, Training, and Use” with a historical novel in tow. He is past president/director, and still member, of the New Ross Historical Society, Burial Grounds Care Society, Northville Farm Heritage Center, and the Kings Historical Society and Museum.
